Which subscribers renew manually?

Find subscriptions flagged for manual renewal and see how each one is set to renew.

You will list every subscription that customers must renew by hand, and see how each one renews.

Add the Manual renewal filter, choose Requires manual renewal, and show the Renewal method column.

Before you start

• You need access to Recurring Reports. See Permissions.
• This recipe needs WooCommerce Subscriptions.
• Manual renewal is not one of the default filters. You add it once from More filter.

Two ways to filter, and how they differ

• The Manual renewal filter reads the WooCommerce Subscriptions manual-renewal flag. It includes every flagged subscription, even one that still has a stored card.
• The Payment method filter has a Manual Renewal option. It only matches flagged subscriptions that have no stored payment gateway.

So the Manual renewal filter can return more rows than the Payment method option. Use the filter when you want everyone who must pay by hand.

Steps

1. Go to WooCommerce → Recurring Reports and open the Reports tab.
2. Open the Filters picker and select More filter.
3. In Add filter field, choose the Subscription source. Select Manual renewal.
4. Keep or change the Filter name, then select Add filter.
5. Expand Manual renewal and choose Requires manual renewal.
6. Select Apply filters.
7. In the table header, open Columns and select Add column.
8. From the Subscription source, add Renewal method. Repeat for Manual renewal and Payment method if you want both facts side by side.

Renewal method shows exactly what the subscription edit screen shows: Manual Renewal, or the gateway name. Payment method shows the stored gateway. A subscription that holds a card but is flagged for manual renewal shows both. Renewal method cannot be sorted or filtered.

Variations

• The opposite list. Choose Renews automatically instead. This also matches subscriptions switched back to automatic payments.
• Manual renewals due soon. Add a Date range on Next payment for the next 30 days. See Which renewals are due in the next 30 days?.
• Quick count without a new filter. Leave filters as they are and read By payment method in the Summary of these filters panel. Its Manual Renewal entry counts flagged subscriptions with no stored gateway. The panel only appears while at least one filter is applied.

Export it

Select Export CSV to send the list to whoever chases manual payments. See Exports.
